Laptop Cart at NCS

Once again, many thanks for your contributions to last year's Annual
Fund. Here you can see the 8th grade students using those laptops to
develop their avalanche presentations for the snow physics unit.
Donations to this year's Annual Fund will help improve our performing
arts program.

NCS: Algebra

Algebra is a critical course in any school's scope and sequence. Here
Libby Doan is teaching one of several different algebra sections. We
use the Harold Jacobs text. We provide comprehensive coverage
including quadratics. NCS also does significant algebra work in our
honors level geometry class, as well as offering algebra support -
when needed - in our learning lab.

NCS: Sunday Night Program

Hello. Usually about three or four times a term we have a special dress-up dinner and a formal program following. Last night we dispensed with the dress-up portion as students are just getting clothing back, now that the lice infestation seems behind us. However, we did have a formal program, a short slide presentation set to music with questions after. I talked to the children about climbs that I had done over the past 30 years, and the enclosed slide was one of the introductory ones. After every program comes the usual Sunday night locker clean-up and letter writing.

NCS: end of year performance

Teresa Carey has students reading lines for speaking parts in The Neverending Story.  Students are also signing up for dance parts, as well as key lighting, sound, and backstage rolls. Larry Robjent showed me his sketch book (picture attached) the other day for his emerging ideas about the stage and various props.  Mike Tholen and Larry will construct an elaborate puppet – Falkor the dragon — during intersession.  As the next few months unfold I will share bits and pieces of the preparations for this performance.  Save the date: May 30th.
